Our nature and wildlife photography course look at the full gamut of nature from macro subjects such as mosses and lichens through to birds and other wildlife. They are split between two seasons, spring and autumn offering a contrasting view of Lakelands stunning flora and fauna.
Subjects covered on each nature and wildlife photography course are dependent on the equipment that guests bring with them on the workshop. As an example, visits to bird reserves are only practical if all the guests have suitable telephoto lenses enabling them to get close up images of the birds from a distance.
Due to the nature of the subject matter these workshops are often only based in a couple of locations each day and are therefore suitable for those that don’t want to do too much walking.
Spring nature and wildlife photography course
This is a magical time in the Lake District as life is starting to reappear after the depths of winter. It is the perfect time to capture spring flowers, including bluebells in prime Lakeland locations. Other stunning photo opportunities include damselflies and dragonflies that are just emerging into the spring sunlight. When photographing small subjects such as damselflies and dragonflies, John is on hand to advise on the use of macro lenses and macro flash techniques.
This week also sees an opportunity to visit local bird reserves in order to capture some of the new arrivals that have spent the winter in warmer climes and wintering birds that are still in the area.
Autumn nature & wildlife photography course
The end of the summer brings out rich autumn colours in the flora together with a plethora of different and colourful fungi. This time of year is a mix of warm autumn tones and vibrant colours that are intensified by the sometimes-frequent autumn showers. John is extremely knowledgeable in photographing fungi, and will help guests to prepare the shot and advise on use of reflectors, diffusers and where necessary filters to get the most out of the subject.
Each evening, after dinner John reviews 10 - 15 images from each person, providing constructive feedback. The price is £685 for the 6 nights inclusive of accommodation, tuition, food and excursions - only alcoholic drinks are excluded.
Over 60% guests return on a regular basis and from our surveys 100% would recommend LPH to a friend.
